Pismo Beach

Pismo Beach

I was born in San Luis Obispo and lived in Pismo Beach for the first 5 years of my life. I have very few memories of my time there but, I still consider it a very special place. Making a trip there was the reason we started planning our road trip in the first place.

After getting off the island we spent a night in Santa Barbara and headed up the coast to Pismo Beach the next morning. I knew exactly where we were going to stop first and had been telling Brian about it since we started dating; SPLASH CAFE!

My family has eaten a lot of Splash Cafe in our lifetimes and created many memories there, most I don’t remember, but I love hearing about them. Splash is known for their award-winning clam chowder, most often served in a delicious bread bowl. Due to my celiac disease I wasn’t able to participate in the clam chowder but I had some really good grilled fish. Brian got the clam chowder, and told me it definitely lived up to its hype.

After Splash we walked down the boardwalk and sat and watched people fish. I often wonder what my mom thought when we traded the ocean for the desert.

We were able to drive past my old house and talk about the memories I have there. Despite feeling like a born and raised Arizonan, California holds a special place in my heart and I’m so happy Brian and I were able to share it.
